About Mu Omicron

From Alpha Nu Delta to Tau Kappa Epsilon

The Mu Omicron chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon at Tennessee Tech University has been building better men for a better world since 1969.

Our alumni association maintains the lifelong bonds of brotherhood forged during our college years while supporting the active chapter and advancing the ideals of TKE. We are committed to the development of character, leadership, and service.

Our Heritage: From Sherman’s Raiders to TKE Mu Omicron

The Mu Omicron Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon has a unique and storied history that began in the summer of 1963 as “Sherman’s Raiders,” an underground social club formed during Tennessee Tech’s era of prohibited fraternities. Under the visionary leadership of Richard Aquilini and Frank Schinn, the group evolved into Alpha Nu Delta fraternity in October 1965, maintaining their brotherhood through secret meetings while advocating for official Greek life recognition. After a successful petition process, Alpha Nu Delta affiliated with Tau Kappa Epsilon in December 1967 and was officially chartered as the Mu Omicron Chapter on May 17, 1969—becoming part of the historic first wave of nationally recognized Greek organizations at Tennessee Tech. This remarkable six-year journey from underground club to nationally chartered fraternity exemplifies the courage, persistence, and brotherhood values that continue to define our chapter today.
